What is SITMA
The Sound Insulation Testing and Measurement Association (SITMA) is the UK’s professional body for sound insulation testers, founded in 2018 to provide training, technical advice, and measurement procedures, and setting best practices for businesses and independent consultants around the country. SITMA is affiliated to the Building Compliance Testers Association (BCTA).
Criteria for SITMA accreditation
To join SITMA as a registered member, businesses must demonstrate the following criteria:
- Complete the Certificate of Competence in Building Acoustics Measurement (CCBAM) through the Institute of Acoustics, or SITMA’s internal training scheme.
- Operate UKAS-calibrated sound insulation testing equipment
- Hold all relevant public liability and professional indemnity insurances
- Receive 2 to 3 unannounced SITMA audits per year
